Coroner identifies homicide victim found Monday

Monday, February 11, 2013 - 2:35 pm

The death of an 18-year-old man found in Fort Wayne this morning has been preliminarily ruled a homicide after an autopsy, according to the Allen County Coroner's office.

Nathaniel Jishaun Rainer was found about 2 a.m. Monday in a vacant lot near Smith and Emily streets. Rainer was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

Police said Monday morning that a firearm was found near the body, although they had not determined to whom the gun belongs.

The autopsy showed that Rainer died of gunshot wound or wounds; the coroner's office does not disclose how many wounds a victim of homicide has.

Rainer is the fourth homicide of 2013 in Allen County. The killing remains under investigation by Fort Wayne Police, the coroner's office and Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
