Half-ton of copper wiring stolen from business

Tuesday, February 12, 2013 - 2:08 pm

A thief or thieves stole around 1,000 pounds of copper wiring from equipment at Brooks Construction on Ardmore Avenue near Lower Huntington Road, according to a Fort Wayne Police report.

Police investigated the report Thursday, but because the equipment had not been used recently, employees could not say exactly when it was stolen. The company reported that about 350 feet of cable was taken; replacing the wire and repairing the equipment will cost around $10,000, according to the report.

Police planned to alert scrap metal dealers to the theft so that they could watch for the wire.
