Fort Wayne Police reports

Friday, February 15, 2013 - 9:33 am

FWCS schools locked down

Three Fort Wayne Community Schools facilities – Whitney Young Early Childhood Center, as well as Irwin and Weisser Park elementaries – were placed on lockdown for less than 10 minutes this morning as the Fort Wayne Police Department searched a surrounding area for a possible suspect in a shooting of a man on Abbott Street.

The schools were locked down at 8:44 a.m. and were cleared for normal operations at 8:52 a.m., according to Krista Stockman, the district’s public information officer.

Three EACS sites placed on lockdown

Three schools from the East Allen County Schools district were placed on lockdown Thursday morning at the Fort Wayne Police Department’s request.

The schools – Southwick and Prince Chapman elementaries, as well as Paul Harding Junior High – were locked down from around 9:30 to 11:45 a.m., said Tamyra Kelly, the district’s public information officer.

Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel of the Allen County Sheriff’s Department said the FWPD made the request to perform a criminal investigation, not because the schools were under any particular or imminent threat.
