Local teen chosen to sing at national conference

Saturday, February 16, 2013 - 12:01 am

Cecelia Snow a member of the Fort Wayne Children's Choir, will get to take her skills to the national stage.

Snow, who turns age 17 on Sunday, has been selected to be part of an American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National High School Mixed Honor Choir at the ACDA national biannual conference March 13-16 in Dallas.

She is among 300 young women and men selected for Mixed Choir from among 3,600 who auditioned, Denice Beights, executive director of the Fort Wayne Children's Choir, said in a news release. A portion of the conference will showcase the talents of middle and high school students.

The nonprofit ACDA seeks to “promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research and teaching,” and to elevate choral music's standing in society, the news release said.

Snow has been a Fort Wayne Children's Choir member for eight years, Beights said. Snow currently sings in the Children's Choir's Youth Chorale and Chamber Singers.

Snow also participates in music and drama at Canterbury High School, where she is a junior.

This is the second time she has been selected for an ACDA national honor choir.
