Keeping Spartans off glass will prove critical

Tuesday, February 19, 2013 - 2:37 am

Top-ranked Indiana visits fourth-ranked Michigan State tonight. Here are some positive for the Hoosier Nation if they occur:

1. It controls the Michigan State fast break. The Hoosiers can't let the Spartans dominate in transition. They have to take smart shots and must fall back to force Michigan State into a half-court game.

2. It wins the rebound battle. The Spartans traditionally thrive by crashing the boards to generate second-chance points on offense and fast-break opportunities on defense. If IU controls the boards, it likely also controls the Michigan State fast break. It's a two-for-one deal.

3. Gets to the free throw line at least 25 times. IU has spent the season making more free throws than opponents attempt. If that happens tonight, it will not only provide easy points, but likely ensure some key Spartans spend extra time on the bench with foul trouble.
