A Columbia City man is behind bars in connection with the reported fondling of a 3-year-old Claypool girl.Zachery Robert Roderick Walsh is accused of molesting the girl while he was babysitting for her and her 4-year-old sister, according to Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department spokesman 1st Sgt. Chad D. Hill. Walsh is preliminarily charged with child molesting, fondling, or touching a child under the age of 14. He was being held in the Kosciusko County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

Sheriff's deputies had responded to a Claypool residence at around 11:30 p.m. Monday in regards to a possible molestation incident. Officers were told by the girl's mother that her family friend had stopped by earlier with the friend's brother, whom she identified as Walsh.

Walsh was left to care for the two girls while both women ran an errand in Warsaw, according to a news release from Hill. The mother returned and discovered that the 3-year-old had been inappropriately touched in the genital area by Walsh, according to the news release.

Officers separately interviewed the child, who described the alleged fondling and said it had occurred in a bedroom without her 4-year-old sister present, according to the news release.

Deputies took Walsh to the Sheriff's Department where he was interviewed about the incident and allegedly confessed to touching the girl's genital area, according to the news release.
