The Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce on Thursday announced 12 nominees for the ninth annual Northeast Indiana Athena Award Program.

The chamber will award two community leaders. One, the Athena Leadership Award, celebrates exceptional individuals who have achieved excellence in their profession, served the community in a meaningful way, and assisted women in their attainment of professional goals and leadership skills, according to a chamber news release. The other, the Athena Young Professional Leadership Award, celebrates those same qualities in community leaders 40 years of age or younger.

The nominees will be honored and the recipients announced at a lunch April 11. The Athena Award includes presentations to nearly 6,000 individuals worldwide. The Fort Wayne recipients will be invited to the International Athena Leadership Conference.

The chamber's ceremony includes a presentation of $1,000 scholarships to female high school students to continue their education, sponsored by Dr. Michelle Helfgott and Parkview Physicians Group Integrative Medicine.
