Sleet-covered roads close schools; city salt trucks out

Friday, February 22, 2013 - 7:33 am

Fort Wayne Community Schools and other school systems in the area closed Friday morning as drivers contended with sleet-covered slick roads.

School officials for Northwest, Southwest and East Allen County school districts, along with FWCS, went from 2-hour delays to closures by 7:30 a.m.

Crews from the Fort Wayne Street Department continued battling effects of the latest winter storm Friday morning. Plow trucks were out through Thursday night battling the freezing rain and snow that fell through the night, according to city spokesman Frank Suarez

Friday morning, 40 trucks were out salting and plowing streets in every section of the city, with an emphasis on treating main roads and arterials.
