Behind 28 saves from goaltender Jeff Deslauriers, the Fort Wayne Komets ended their season-high six-game losing streak by beating the Toledo Walleye 3-1 on Saturday night.
Matt Syroczynski, Brandon Marino and J.M. Rizk snapped the Komets' scoring slump with goals. Syroczynski scored the first goal of the game in the second period, Marino nailed the game-winner with 2:54 remaining and Rizk slammed home the empty-net goal to finish the scoring.
The win leaves the Komets in 10th place in the ECHL's Eastern Conference, seven points behind eighth-place Elmira which lost to Kalamazoo 2-1 in a shootout. Kalamazoo trails Elmira by four points and leads the Komets by three points.
The Komets also lead Orlando by one points and Wheeling by three points. Wheeling, which lost to Cincinnati 3-1 on Saturday night, comes to Fort Wayne for a 5 p.m. face-off on Sunday.
