Two charged with murder in shooting death of Fort Wayne man

Thursday, February 28, 2013 - 2:04 pm

Two men have been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a Fort Wayne man less than a week ago.

According to a news release from the Fort Wayne Police Department, 27-year-old Augustus Marshall and 23-year-old Jose J. Lopez are in Allen County Jail. The two are charged in the Feb. 23 death of Antonio Galvan III, which took place at around 1:20 a.m. in the 3000 block of McDonald Street.

FWPD officers at that time were dispatched to investigate a reported shooting; responders found Galvan, who had apparently been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene and is Allen County's sixth homicide of the year.

According to the police department, Marshall and Lopez were the subjects of a vehicle pursuit later that morning on Feb. 23, after officers responded to a reported disturbance, allegedly with shots fired, at the Sunoco gas station at 5133 Coldwater Road.

A police officer allegedly spotted the suspect vehicle from the disturbance and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle's driver allegedly did not stop, prompting a police pursuit.

The vehicle pursuit reportedly ended when the suspect vehicle allegedly collided with a parked vehicle in the driveway of a home in the 2000 block of Brown Street, according to the police department.

The driver and passenger allegedly exited the vehicle and then fled on foot. Officers tracked footprints in the snow to the rear of another home in the 2000 block of Brown, according to the news release, where they found a woman who fled from her home screaming there were people inside.

Marshall and Lopez allegedly were found hiding inside and were taken into custody.
