Homestead, Canterbury standouts named to Core Group

A trio of Fort Wayne-area girl’s basketball players were recently honored as selections to the Indiana Junior All-Stars for 2013.

Homestead’s Sydney Buck and Canterbury’s Kindell Fincher each were named to the Core Group, which will participate in a series of games with both the Indiana All-Stars, as well as a junior group of Kentucky players this summer.

Also being named to the North Group, which will compete in one of the exhibition games against the senior group, is Concordia Lutheran’s Courtney Smith.

Eighteen players were honored overall.

Joining Buck and Fincher on the Core group are Erica Moore (Mt. Vernon (Fortville), Maura Muensterman (Evansville Mater Dei), Tayler Goodall (Columbus North), and Whitney Jennings (Logansport).

Along with Smith, the North Group players are Kayla Brown (Westfield), Nikki Grose (Warsaw), Jaclyn Heath (LaPorte), Kellie Kirkhoff (Roncalli), and Morgan Olson (NorthWood).

The South Group will consist of Mackenzie Campbell (Rushville), Danielle Cuttino (Ben Davis), Jenna Knepp (Barr-Reeve), Ana Owens (Lawrence North), Destiny Washington (Lawrence North) and Lauren Whitlatch (Bloomington South).

The head coach for the 2013 girls Junior All-Stars will be Michelle Harter of Warsaw. She will be assisted by Jared Peterson of Austin and Tod Windlan of Hamilton Heights.

The Junior All-Stars will play two games against the Kentucky Junior All-Stars on June 7 and June 8. The sites and times for these games will be announced later.

The Junior All-Stars also will play two games against the IndyStar.com Indiana All-Star senior girls on June 10 and June 12. The sites and times for these games also will be announced later.

The players listed as core group players will play in all four games.

The players listed as North group players will join the core group for one game against Kentucky and one game against the Indiana seniors.

The players listed as South group players will join the core group for the other game against Kentucky and the other game against the Indiana seniors.

Assignments for the North and South groups for which dates will be made later.
