Andy Bayer anchored the Indiana University distance medley relay team to a fourth-place finish Friday night at the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. The Leo High School graduate received the baton outside the top 10 and then worked his way into the top five for the final sprint. IU finished in 9 minutes, 34.3 seconds. Princeton won the race in 9:33.0. Bayer is slated to run the 3,000 today.
At the NCAA Division II championships in Birmingham, Alabama, Homestead graduate Andrew McLain of Lewis University and Concordia graduate Hannah Osborn of Grand Valley State both earned all-America status in their respective events.
McLain finished eighth in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 14 minutes, 20 seconds.
Osborn ran the anchor (1,600-meter) leg of the distance medley relay for The Lakers, which placed seventh.<
