RICHMOND — Richmond police say their high-speed pursuit of a suspect ended before the fleeing vehicle crashed along a highway north of the city.
Police said Monday afternoon they ended the pursuit along Indiana 227 because of rainy conditions and "the extremely dangerous fashion in which the suspect vehicle was being operated."
After ending the pursuit, officers continued up the highway and found the vehicle had crashed about five miles north of the city.
The Palladium-Item reports that the fleeing vehicle appears to have left the highway after cresting a hill and struck two trees. The driver died at the scene but the identity was not immediately released pending notification of relatives.
The pursuit began after an attempted traffic stop.
