The Rant is The News-Sentinel's anonymous sound-off forum. The readers' views expressed here do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of The News-Sentinel. I'm glad that State Sen. David Long wants to join other states to open up the Constitution. They want to update the Second Amendment. It's about time. Thank you, Sen. Long and others, in the legislature who will vote for this to happen.

Ranter says: I wonder if Jesus considers being rich immoral. I think it depends on what the rich person does with his wealth. Is it immoral for someone with less to take from one who has more? Or for the government to take assets from citizens to supposedly re-distribute? Go figure.

Pfc. Bradley Manning, who leaked hundreds of thousands of classified documents to WikiLeaks, is being hailed as a “heroic whistle-blower.” He's not! He is a traitor and deserves the 20 years in prison.

Why do we need (Indiana) Senate Bill 373? If these factory farms are doing nothing wrong, they got nothing to hide. Seems like Republicans are more concerned with big donations than they are with public safety. Would you really throw a whistle blower in jail?

Helpful tip to the Allen County GOP: Making the South Side high school theater department tear down its play set to put up banners for your caucus is not a good way to build goodwill among the community.

OK, I get it. You are in a big fat hurry. But last I heard, a red light means stop. It doesn't mean that three more vehicles can enter the intersection.

While driving on Lake Avenue. I was behind a women driving slow and careless. When she pulled into the left lane, I realized her problem as I pulled up next to her. She was on her cell phone and going through a folder on her lap. Really?

I know we have a “cool” president, but I miss those with class that don't yuk it up on talk shows or golf with adulterers. I didn't think much of Bush, but he didn't blame everyone else for his shortcomings as a leader. A veteran friend told me he hosts wounded warrior weekends at his ranch without making national news. Now that's class.

Although confusion and concerns remain about the effect the sequester cuts will have on individual and business income, one point is clear. The salary of the president and Congress will continue unchanged no matter what happens. There are no words that adequately describe the disgust and contempt one has about Congress and the president!

I am 85 years old — by virtue of sticking around this long — I've had to accept concepts of moral behavior that are the opposite of what would once have been acceptable. But the one thing I can't believe people accepted is deviant behavior stealing a perfectly good word and muddying it so it's true meaning is lost. The word is “gay” … .

On a regular basis, we get mail from places that say to us: “Respond by email.” We do not have email by our own choice! We do not have a computer in our home.

When sequestration begins to result in layoffs in education, could FWCS (Fort Wayne Community Schools) start with our superintendent and area administrators? Compared to a teacher, it's doubtful anyone would even know they were gone.

Could we, because of sequestration, add congressmen and senators to the list of those to be furloughed one day per week? The work they do isn't nearly as important as that of those being furloughed.

A 7-year-old bites his pastry into the shape of a gun and is suspended. In D.C., two boys suspended for using their fingers as guns. In Pennsylvania, a 5-year-old suspended for just talking to friends about shooting her Hello Kitty gun that blows bubbles. With this kind of paranoia rampant, do we really believe gun-control advocates will protect Second Amendment rights for real guns?

The Dow Jones reaches an all-time high. There are 16 percent more billionaires (worldwide) this year than last year. Corporate profits and CEO compensations skyrocket. If President Obama is a socialist, he seems not to be a very good one.

Republicans in the Indiana House are set to pass a law that will require women to get an ultrasound in order to get a legal drug. This should be between a woman and her doctor. The goverment has no business in this. Shame on these people.
