The Indianapolis Colts continued to put together the pieces of its defense, signing former San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Ricky Jean Francois on Thursday, a day after picking up safety LaRon Landry.
Francois played in all 16 games for the 49ers in 2012 for the third straight season with career highs in tackles (51) and sacks (2).
“Ricky is a quick, aggressive and extremely powerful player,” Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said in a released statement. “He has been a mainstay the last four years within a dominate NFL defense with the lot of special players. He not only has familiarity with our scheme. …At 26, we feel the arrow is pointing straight up and we're looking forward to him making a big impact for us this coming season.”
The Colts also signed cornerback Darius Butler on Thursday, securing him for another season. Butler led the Colts in interceptions last season with four, returning two for touchdowns.
