Homicide victim's ID released by Allen County Coroner's Office

Friday, March 15, 2013 - 4:31 pm

The Allen County Coroner's Office on Friday released the identity of a person who was shot and killed Thursday evening near the intersection of Abbott Street and McKee Street.

Demarcus E. Adams, 23, is the eighth homicide victim this year in Allen County, according to the coroner's office. Adams' autopsy was conducted Friday, and the coroner's office ruled the cause of death to be by gunshot, with standing policy of the coroner being to not reveal how many times a person was shot.

Information released earlier by the Fort Wayne Police Department said the shooting likely took place Thursday evening around 7:50 p.m. Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Abbott and McKee, near the 2200 block of McKee, with responders locating a parked, four-door car.

A man was inside the vehicle who appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds, according to the police. The man, Adams, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses reportedly told investigators that a second vehicle pulled up next to the parked vehicle, with someone inside the second vehicle firing multiple shots into the parked car. Multiple shell casings were found at the scene of the incident, according to the release.

The second vehicle was last seen traveling west on McKee. No vehicle description was available, nor was a motive or suspect description released.

The incident is being investigated by the police department, coroner's office and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office. Anyone with information can contact the FWPD's Detective Bureau at 427-1201 or Crime Stoppers.
