A man who reportedly was shot early Friday morning has died.
According to a information provided earlier by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the man - whose identity has not yet been released - was shot around 3:28 a.m. in the 3400 block of Reed Street.
Police officers were dispatched to that location in order to investigate reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found an adult man lying in the middle of the roadway.
The man appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds. He was ruled to be in critical condition at the scene and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
Investigators were told by witnesses that several gunshots rang out before the man was pushed out of a four-door car that was last seen heading northbound on Reed Street, according to the police.
The release said that a short time later, a four-door vehicle was found at the intersection of Colerick Street and Oliver Street, where it had apparently crashed into a bush. Investigators believe this vehicle may be the same one that was in the 3400 block of Reed Street at the time of the shooting.
Witnesses at the intersection reportedly told investigators that the vehicle crashed and that a person fled on foot from the scene.
The Allen County Coroner's Office will rule on the cause and manner of death, as well as release the person's identity. Should the death be ruled a homicide, it would be the ninth such ruling in Allen County this year and the second in less than 24 hours.
