A man was reportedly in critical condition after an early morning shooting.
Fort Wayne Police Department officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Reed Street around 3:28 a.m. in order to investigate reports of a shooting, according to a news release from the department. Upon arrival, officers found an adult man laying in the middle of the roadway.
The man, whose identity has not been released, appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds, according to the release. He was ruled to be in critical condition at the scene and was transported to a local hospital.
Investigators were told by witnesses that several gunshots rang out before the man was pushed out of a four-door car that was last seen heading northbound on Reed Street.
The release said that a short time later, a four-door vehicle was found at the intersection of Colerick Street and Oliver Street, where it had apparently crashed into a bush. Investigators believe this vehicle may be the same one that was in the 3400 block of Reed Street at the time of the shooting.
Witnesses at the intersection reportedly told investigators that the vehicle crashed and that a person fled on foot from the scene.
The case remains under investigation; anyone with information can contact the police department at 427-1222.
