Fort Wayne police investigating apparent Thursday night shooting, death

Friday, March 15, 2013 - 6:45 am

The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating what could be the city's latest homicide.

According to a news release from the department, the incident took place Thursday evening around 7:50 p.m. Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Abbott Street and McKee Street, near the 2200 block of McKee, and responders located a parked, four-door car.

A man was inside the vehicle who appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds, according to the release. The man, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses reportedly told investigators that a second vehicle pulled up next to the parked vehicle, with someone inside the second vehicle firing multiple shots into the parked car. Multiple shell casings were found at the scene of the incident, according to the release.

The second vehicle was last seen traveling west on McKee. No vehicle description was available, nor was a motive or suspect description released.

The deceased man's identity will be released after a cause and manner of death has been formally determined by the Allen County Coroner's Office. If the man's death is ruled a homicide, it will be the eighth in Allen County this year.

The incident is being investigated by the police department, coroner's office and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office. Anyone with information can contact the FWPD's Detective Bureau at 427-1201 or Crime Stoppers.
