INDIANAPOLIS – While praising the development of second-year quarterback Chandler Harnish, Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson still plans to add competition at the position for training camp.
The Colts have only two quarterbacks on their current roster – starter Andrew Luck and Harnish – after last year's backup Drew Stanton signed with the Arizona Cardinals.
Harnish is a former Norwell High School and Northern Illinois University standout player.
“Chandler's coming along well,” Grigson said during a news conference Friday at the Colts practice complex. “We all feel very good about Chandler. We always want, just like every position, we want to create competition and let the best emerge.”
Grigson did not say if he has already identified other quarterbacks he might sign before training camp. It's possible the Colts could bring in a veteran to challenge for the backup spot or possibly pick a quarterback in the latter rounds of the NFL Draft.
