Butler man, Ligonier man killed in Noble County collision

Monday, March 18, 2013 - 9:23 am

A 65-year-old man from Butler and a 44-year-old man from Ligonier were killed Sunday evening when their cars collided on U.S. 6 East in Noble County.

A 1997 Ford Contour driven by William Crandall, 44, was eastbound on U.S. 6 east of 300 W when it left the right side of the road. Crandall overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle, according to a sheriff's department news release. The Ford Contour slid left of the center line into the westbound lane and was struck by an oncoming 1997 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by George Harmon, 65, that was westbound on U.S. 6. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Grand Am, Laura Harmon, 60, of Ligonier, sustained injuries to both her legs and was flown by Samaritan to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the release.

Noble County Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by Noble County EMS, Albion Fire Department, Orange Township Fire Department, and the Indiana State Police.
