Area police officers were responding to numerous vehicle accidents, some with injuries, during the early-morning commute Monday. Officers were requesting that salt trucks from the Indiana State Department of Transportation to get to several state roads.Freezing rain falling on ice early in the morning made driving conditions hazardous. Between 6:30 and 7 a.m., the following was reported to police, according to scanner traffic:

*A truck overturned on its side, trapping a person inside, at Notestine Road and Indiana 37.

*A caller saw a van overturn twice north of the 12400 block of Bluffton Road.

*Several semis were unable to get through an icy section in the Webster Road area after a truck overturned.

The road conditions had Fort Wayne Community Schools and other area schools calling for a two-hour delay to classes. Officials later closed local schools. That now means FWCS' last day of the school year will be June 6.
