A dog's reversal of fortunes doesn't get much better than this.
In January, 18-month-old Sawyer was evidence in an animal-cruelty case. Both of his front legs had been broken after he had been thrown.
Since then, so many families have asked to adopt the abused mixed-breed dog that Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control must hold a lottery to decide who gets Sawyer.
The cruelty case remains an open investigation, Animal Control said, which limits the adoption of Sawyer to those living in Allen County. Families who want a chance to adopt Sawyer should fill out an adoption profile and get it to Animal Control on Monday. Animal Control will pick a prospective adopter and allow that family to meet Sawyer between noon and 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Animal Control also will pick two alternatives, in case the first family chosen decides not to adopt Sawyer.
The shelter will select two alternates in the event that the first candidate declines the adoption.
