Volleydons rally to win in five games

Saturday, March 23, 2013 - 9:52 pm

Trailing 2-1, the IPFW men's volleyball team rallied to pull off a major upset Saturday night at Gates Sports Center. The Volleydons got 15 kills each from Eddie Rivera and Andy Sellan to beat No. 8 Ohio State 28-26, 17-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-9.

Anthony Randolph added 10 kills, Luis Bertram 10 digs and Omar Rivera 48 assists as IPFW improved to 10-9.

IPFW charged to a 17-11 lead in the fourth game and held off an Ohio State rally to force the fifth game. After an early 3-3 tie, IPFW build an 11-6 lead on kills by Randolph and Sellan and cruised the rest of the way until Eddie Rivera blocked the Buckeyes' Ramon Burgos for a 14-9 lead.

Michael Henchy led the Buckeyes, 15-5, with 15 kills, Andrew Lutz hit 13 and Chen Levitan 12. Brennan Anderson had 16 digs.

This is the third time in the last five matches IPFW has beaten a ranked team. The Volleydons' next match is Friday at home against Pfeiffer.
