Warsaw man dies after jumping from moving vehicle

Wednesday, March 27, 2013 - 7:47 am

A Warsaw man died Monday of brain injuries he sustained earlier this year after he jumped from a moving vehicle in rural Kosciusko County, authorities said.

Jerry Lee Charles Belcher, 21, died Monday of complications from traumatic brain injury resulting from blunt force trauma, the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department said in a news release. The Allen County Coroner's Office performed the autopsy.

Police have said Belcher jumped from a moving pickup Jan. 18 northwest of Warsaw after he and his father, who was driving the vehicle, got into an intense verbal argument on their way to work. As the pickup traveled north on County Road 800 West, just south of County Road 850 North, Belcher opened the front passenger-side door and jumped out, police said.

Belcher's father immediately turned around and went back for his son, who had extensive head injuries and was airlifted to a South Bend hospital in critical condition, police said.
