ANDERSON — A central Indiana man faces auto theft and other charges after police say he stole an ambulance and crashed it into five parked cars.Twenty-seven-year-old Joseph L. Sandlin was arrested early Friday in Anderson after police said they found him sitting in the driver's seat of the crashed ambulance. He's being held on preliminary charges that include theft of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Anderson Police spokesman Detective Joel Sandefur tells The Herald Bulletin medics were responding to an emergency call at an apartment complex when Sandlin jumped into their unattended ambulance. He allegedly drove the ambulance to a nearby street and crashed into five parked cars.

Sandefur says Sandlin told officers he had taken hydrocodone and several other pills.
