Restaurant news: Enjoy fine food and wine while helping ballet

Fort Wayne Ballet invites the community to A Toast to Downtown, an evening of fine foods and wine that raises funds for the ballet. Club Soda will provide food and a cash bar, DeBrand will provide chocolates and Cap n' Cork will provide wines. The event is 5:30-8 p.m. April 19 at The History Center, 302 E. Berry St. Tickets are $50 per person. There also will be a silent auction through 7:30 p.m.

Guests can will be able to buy tickets for a drawing for a pair of ladies 14-karat white gold, 1.04-carats total weight, round, diamond twist hoop earrings valued at $2,650 from Bradley Gough Diamonds. The first 50 people to buy drawing tickets will receive a $50 Bradley Gough coin.

Reservations are required by April 12; an ID will be required at the door. Tickets are available at the ballet by calling 484-9646.

Russian buffet

Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast culinary students are hosting a Russian buffet Thursday. Reservations can be made for seating between 5 and 6:30 p.m. and must be made at least 24 hours in advance by calling 480-2002. The dinner is served at Ivy Tech's Coliseum Campus, 3800 N. Anthony Blvd. in the Hospitality Room (enter door 24 on the north side of the building). Cost: $20 per person, cash or check only.

DeBrand tours

In conjunction with the Vera Bradley outlet sale, DeBrand Fine Chocolates is hosting tours at its Auburn Road location, 10105 Auburn Park Drive. Tour hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. April 9-April 13 and noon-5 p.m. April 14. Cost is $5 per person. Each attendee will get $5 off a purchase of $10 or more. Reservations are not required.

Classes

•The Olive Twist in Covington Plaza, 6410 W. Jefferson Blvd., hosts Mark Carboni of Cooking with Carbo for a cooking class 6:30-9:30 p.m. April 12. On the menu: lemon pesto and avocado toasts; lime cilantro rice; zesty asparagus; Italian chicken; and Nutella mousse. Cost: $35. Call 436-EVOO (436-3866) to reserve a spot.

•Laura Wilson of La Dolce Vita, 112 N. Main St., Roanoke, is hosting two upcoming classes. From 1 to 3 p.m. April 18 the Early Spring Tea class will feature News-Sentinel etiquette columnist Karen Hickman. She will teach you what to look for when shopping for tea and how to prepare it. The class will taste three teas, including the expensive white tea. Wilson will prepare food delicacies from England and France. You will receive handouts, recipes and a little gift. Cost: $40.

From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 22 the Fabulous Vegetarian demonstration will focus on lentils, fish, yogurt, broccoli and Brussels sprouts. Cost: $45.
