Customers pack in to feel the Goodwill

Friday, April 5, 2013 - 12:01 am

Shoppers packed the opening day Thursday of Goodwill's new store in Glenbrook Commons. The nonprofit closed its Coliseum Boulevard store in March and relocated it to the former Fashion Bug storefront. The new space provides 12,855 square feet of space to sell items, including clothing, toys, shoes and housewares.

"We use the revenue of donated goods sold in our store to support our employment services programs, which help people with disabilities find and keep jobs,” said Goodwill Industries President Bill Warriner in a news release.

Goodwill Industries of Northeast Indiana is still running far below usual in the volume of donations it is receiving, said Ruth Koontz, the organization's community relations and marketing specialist.

"We've seen a slight uptick" since Goodwill made a special appeal for donations last month. It hasn't been nearly enough to reverse the inventory shortage Goodwill is suffering.
