Norwell pitcher invited to USA tryout

Jonah Patten is among 144 national-team hopefuls

Saturday, April 6, 2013 - 4:21 am

Norwell High School junior Jonah Patten will have a chance to wear the USA uniform this summer.

Patten, a pitcher who has committed to play for the University of Arkansas, was invited to be one of 144 players across the nation to compete in the 2013 Tournament of Stars June 18-23 in Cary, N.C.

At the end of that week, USA Baseball will announce 40 finalists for the 18U National Team trials Aug. 16-22 in Los Angeles, with the final 20-player roster announced on Aug. 22.

Patten pitched 36 innings as a Norwell sophomore last season, finishing with a 4-2 record, striking out 61 and recording a 1.93 ERA. He also hit .417 with three homers and 25 RBIs.

During the summer, Patten plays for the Indiana Bulls travel team out of Indianapolis.
