One person is dead and another in critical condition after a pickup crash along Indiana 15 on Sunday evening in Kosciusko County.

Kosciusko County sheriff’s deputies and emergency workers responded at 10:54 p.m. to a report of a vehicular crash on Indiana 15, just south of County Road 900 North.

Officers found a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup that had struck a tree, crushing the entire front portion of the vehicle. The driver, identified as Jason S. Watson, 37, of Warsaw, was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt-force trauma by Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson, according to a news release from 1st Sgt. Chad Hill, sheriff's department spokesman.

The front-seat passenger, identified as Ellen Myers, 22, of Warsaw, was extricated from the truck by the Milford Fire Department and airlifted by Samaritan helicopter. Myers was listed in critical but stable condition Monday morning at Parkview Regional Medical Center with severe injuries to her leg, as well as additional torso and arm injuries.

Kosciusko County F.A.C.T./crash investigators said the preliminary investigation determined that Watson had been traveling northbound on Indiana 15 and for an unknown reason went left of center. His truck continued off the west side of the road and then struck the tree head-on.
