Letter to the editor: Let Congress know we want action on guns

Wednesday, April 17, 2013 - 12:01 am

The headline read, “14 wounded in Texas knife spree.”

Consider what the reading would have been if that deranged kid had a gun instead of a knife. Does anyone doubt that there would have been 14 dead?

The NRA mantra, “guns don’t kill, people do,” is old and as wrong as the interpretation of the Second Amendment, which refers to a “well-regulated militia.” Well, we have a militia, the State and National Guards, and I don’t believe that we are about to revolt against the federal government.

It is beyond comprehension how legislators have a problem with expanding background checks and reducing magazine capacities. Let them sit face-to-face with a Newtown parent who lost a 6-year-old. If it is true, and I believe it is, that 90 percent of Americans want action on these two issues, then that 90 percent should be flooding Congress with their messages.

Remind the legislators that they don’t have tenure.
