The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department cited a Waterloo man after his garbage truck struck an SUV.
Deputies were called at 10:39 a.m. Tuesday to Indiana 8 at County Road 41. The 29-year-old driver's garbage truck struck a Ford Explorer driven by a 23-year-old Edgerton, Ohio, man whose left ankle was broken in the collision, according to a news release. He was treated and released from DeKalb Health. A passenger in the SUV, an Edgerton woman, did not have any visible wounds but was taken to DeKalb Health for observation. Both people in the SUV were trapped inside and had to be extricated by the Auburn Fire Department, according to the release.
The garbage truck driver said he was southbound on County Road 41, stopped at the stop sign and then began to cross Indiana 8, according to the report. He said he had a blind spot on the right side of the truck and did not see the SUV, which was eastbound on Indiana 8, according to the release. The truck struck the SUV's driver's-side door. The SUV driver said the truck pulled out in front of him, according to the release. The truck driver was cited for disregarding a stop sign.
DeKalb County EMS and the Indiana State Police assisted.
