Briefs: Civic Theatre to hold 'Les Mis' auditions

The Fort Wayne Art Museum's spring exhibition will be “Afros: A Celebration of Natural Hair,” by Brooklyn photographer and author Michael July, through June 9.In addition, A Day of Natural Hair will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. May 4. Hair demonstrations, discussions, workshops and products from natural hair vendors will be available. At 6:30 p.m., Michael July will discuss the project and exhibit with a model from his book, Aevin Dugas, the world record holder for the largest afro. A sneak preview of the exhibit and Spring Party will be 6-9 p.m. April 26.

Museum hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday; and 12-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free for everyone 5-8 p.m. Thursdays and on Sundays; and at other times free for museum members; $7, adults; $5, students and seniors; and $12, families. Veterans, active military personnel and their families receive free general admission every day.

Main St. Use doors to the Green Room. Strong singers and actors are needed.

For information, call 422-8641, Ext. 226.The IPFW Gene Marcus Piano Competition for students who live within 100 miles of Fort Wayne will be May 18 and 19. Age divisions are 9 and under through age 18. More than $3,000 in cash prizes will be awarded and senior division winners may also receive a scholarship. Postmark deadline for applications is May 4. Video submissions will be accepted.

In addition, the IPFW Gene Marcus Piano Camp for pianists ages 12-18 will be June 9-14. This is a week of intensive piano study and performance. Master classes, group sessions, individual lessons, theory and keyboard skills will be offered.

For information, go to http://new.ipfw.edu/departments/cvpa/caa/piano-competition.html.Fort Wayne Civic Theatre is seeking volunteers for set building and the crew for its production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's “Cinderella.” Build hours will be 9 a.m.-noon and 2-6 p.m. April 17-May 3 and 6-9 p.m. April 23. No experience necessary.

In addition, volunteers are needed for backstage crew, fly crew and spotlight operators. Tech: May 4-8; performance dates: May 9-12; May 15-16; and May 17-19. All volunteers will receive two free tickets to the production they work on with a six-hour minimum commitment and are invited to the annual Anthony Awards presentation and party.

This is a juried art festival coinciding with the Van Wert Peony Festival. Cost is $40 per artist with a deadline of May 24 and $50 after May 24.
