A Fort Wayne woman was convicted on Monday of using her Chrysler PT Cruiser to break her former boyfriend's leg last year.
A 12-person jury in Allen Superior Court considered the evidence and arguments for about 100 minutes Monday before convicting Katie L. Miller, 23, of battery, a Class C felony; leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury, a Class D felony; and criminal recklessness, a Class A misdemeanor. She will appear in court again next month for sentencing.
According to court documents, Fort Wayne Police said that shortly after midnight Sept. 22, they responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident and found the victim on the street. He had a compound fracture of his lower leg and was in great pain, police said. He told police that Miller had struck him in his legs with her car several times.
Police reported that the victim was hospitalized at Parkview Regional Medical Center for several days, where he had surgery to repair his leg. The repair included a steel rod from his kneecap to his ankle, and he had multiple scars after his recovery, police noted.
