All eight members of the Northeast Hoosier Conference withdrew Thursday from the conference, effective July 1, 2015.
The schools are free to pursue other conference affiliation, but will honor their commitments to the NHC through the 2014-15 school year, said NHC president Mark Misch, principal at Norwell High School.
In other words, the NHC will cease to exist after two more school years, although it's possible some of the schools may join together to create a new conference.
“The schools will be free to pursue other conferences,” Misch said. “We did agree as part of our bylaws that all eight schools will abide by the two-year window. You can't up and stop playing NHC games until after the 2014-15 school year.”
The schools in the NHC are Bellmont, Carroll, Columbia City, DeKalb, Homestead, East Noble, New Haven and Norwell.
“I still think there will be involvement among the eight schools who desire to be in a conference,” Misch said. “I would foresee the potential for some of the schools coming together to form a new conference.”
Jay County to join ACAC
Jay County has decided to accept the Allen County Athletic Association's invitation to join, beginning in 2014-15, pending school board approval.
Jay County Superintendent Tim Long will recommend the acceptance at the school board meeting next Monday.
