Letter to the editor: Earth Day: Reduce, reuse, repurpose
Monday, April 22, 2013 08:39 am
In celebration of Earth Day today, Goodwill Industries of Northeast Indiana, Inc. encourages the community to remember the widespread impact from one simple act: donating goods. At Goodwill, your gently used donated clothing, housewares, books, shoes and computers are sold in our retail shops to fund jobs and needed services for people with disabilities and barriers to employment. For 76 years, Goodwill Industries has been an environmental pioneer of the “reduce, reuse, repurpose” practice, diverting more than 6 million pounds of clothing and household goods from local landfills in 2012.
In addition, Goodwill Industries of Northeast Indiana, Inc. hit a milestone – recycling 1 million pounds of computers and computer equipment in conjunction with Dell Reconnect (dellreconnect.com). This recycling effort, which is free to the community, is just one of many recycling programs Goodwill has in place. Goodwill also recycles clothing, shoes, cell phone and small electronics.
On Earth Day this year, don't forget that small actions can still have a big impact. To find a donation site, visit www.fwgoodwill.org
