A 24-year-old man from Kosciusko County is charged with two felonies after his girlfriend's toddler son was found to have a skull fracture, bruises and “obvious injuries to his head and groin area,” according to Kosciusko County Sheriff's deputies.Bradley V. Waikel was arrested after an investigation that began early Thursday afternoon, when Sheriff's Department detectives and child-protection authorities were called by staff at the emergency room of Kosciusko Community Hospital. That's when they learned of a 2-year-old who had been brought to the hospital with multiple injuries. Detectives said the boy was transferred to Riley Children's Hospital, Indianapolis, suffering from multiple bruises and a skull fracture. Detectives also noted that the child had obvious injuries to his head and groin area.

Officers spoke with the mother of the child and later with Waikel, who was currently dating the mother of the 2-year-old and had been living with her, deputies said.

Waikel was subsequently charged with felony neglect of a dependent causing serious bodily injury as well as felony battery of a child under the age of 14 causing serious bodily injury. Waikel is currently being held in the Kosciusko County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
