Rare Javan gibbon born at Fort Wayne Children's Zoo

The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo's Javan gibbons have delivered another healthy baby boy. The baby, which has not yet been named, was born April 16. The birth is a rare occurrence in the zoo world and also important for the long-term future of the small, gray apes, the zoo said. READ MORE

Wider sidewalk to permanently close lane on Clinton between Main and Berry

Clinton Street will go from five lanes to four in front of the Anthony Wayne Building downtown to expand the sidewalk in front of the building, which is being converted into condominiums. The lane closure/wider sidewalk will go from Main Street to Berry Street on the east side of Clinton, and will wrap around the building onto a short section of Berry Street. READ MORE

Three arrested on drug charges after traffic stop in Whitley County

Three men were arrested Tuesday in Whitley County on drug charges after state police made a routine traffic stop. Indiana State Police report that Trooper Jacob Quick stopped a car about 2:40 p.m. on U.S. 30 at Whitley County Road 100 South. Quick reported that the driver and two passengers roused his suspicions through their behavior during the traffic stop, including providing false information concerning their identities. READ MORE

The third of four eggs has hatched and a fuzzy chick emerged Wednesday morning in a nesting box atop Indiana Michigan Power Co.'s headquarters in Fort Wayne in the One Summit Square building. The company is asking for schoolchildren's help in naming the chicks. Parents Moxie, a 2-year-old female, came to Fort Wayne from Canton, Ohio, while Jamie, a 3-year-old male, migrated from Port Sheldon, Mich. Moxie laid four eggs this spring. READ MORE

The Settlers' annual Herb and Perennials Plant Sale this Friday and Saturday will have a wide variety of herbs and plants. But you had better get to the Swinney Homestead early Friday if you want the best selection. The sale usually attracts a large crowd, said Louise Larsen, a member who is helping to organize the sale.
