Body pulled from St. Joseph River

Sunday, May 5, 2013 - 8:12 pm

A man's body was pulled Sunday morning from the St. Joseph River downstream from a location involved in a missing person report, according to Fort Wayne Police .

Conservation officer Randy Clear of the Department of Natural Resources pulled the body out at 10:50 a.m. Sunday, according to FWPD spokeswoman Raquel Foster and a DNR news release. It has not been confirmed that the remains found are that of the missing person, who authorities had searched for Tuesday after his vehicle was found unoccupied at the Shoaff Park boat ramp. Investigators believed the missing person might be in the river, according to the DNR news release. Conservation officers began searching the river Tuesday, using SONAR unit.

The river victim's identity will be confirmed after an autopsy by the Allen County coroner, who will also determine the cause and manner of death. At this time, foul play is not suspected, Foster said.

This incident remains under investigation with the Department of Natural Resources, the Allen County coroner, and the Fort Wayne Police Department.

The Three Rivers Ambulance Authority assisted in the case.
