A Warsaw woman has been arrested and charged with two felonies after she allegedly gagged her 4-year-old daughter with tape and whipped her with a belt, leaving visible bruises.
Kosciusko County Sheriff's deputies and officials from the Department of Child Services went to a rural Warsaw home Monday afternoon to perform a home inspection. As case workers interviewed Sherena Michele Harris, 26, they noted what appeared to be bruises on her daughter, deputies reported. Deputies said that in subsequent interrogation, Harris admitted striking her daughter with a belt, causing the visible injuries, as well as previously taping her mouth shut.
Deputies arrested Harris on preliminary charges of felony battery resulting in bodily injury to a victim under the age of 14 years old, as well as felony neglect of a dependent. Harris is currently being held on a $2,000 bond as officers continue to investigate the incident with the assistance of the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office.
