Letter to the editor: Employees' rights not up to the corporation

Wednesday, May 8, 2013 - 12:01 am

When did my personal rights and freedoms become secondary to a corporation’s “religious” freedoms? How can an employer (who will soon be required to offer me health care) dictate what type of care I choose or want to receive? By all means, David Green, CEO and founder of Hobby Lobby, close your stores. I haven’t shopped there since you and your corporation stated your religious views on what kinds of health care your employees were entitled to.

What happens in the privacy of your employees’ lives is none of your business. Emergency contraceptive use is not for you to decide. It is a decision for the woman involved. Heaven forbid that your wife or daughter is ever raped. Or would her body just “take care of it” as your Republican supporters have stated? Worry about your own life and salvation, Mr. Green, and let your employees worry about theirs.
