The Rant is The News-Sentinel's anonymous sound-off forum. The readers' views expressed here do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of The News-Sentinel. To the ranter whining about school vouchers as “gifts,” wanting a voucher to buy a car: You have it backward. The gift is from the taxpayer who pays for the public schools, does not send their child to this same public school system, and chooses to pay for a Christian or private education. Yes, my choice, but my tax dollars do support your public school that I do not use.

If your kids are traumatized by 9/11 or the Boston bombings, then you are a bad parent. We lived through World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Charlie Manson, etc., and came through it with flying colors. Quit babying your children.

Our pathetic Congress demonstrates its true colors again by ending the sequester cuts on the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), so they can cater to the jet set and fly home for their umpteenth legislative break without a long delay at the airlines. Too bad they don't personally suffer from the cuts in cancer funding, Head Start, Meals on Wheels, etc. If they did, they actually might do something about the poor who suffer from those cuts.

If alcohol is served at a “family event” (such as a baseball game), neither yourself nor members of your family have an obligation to drink. This isn't a difficult concept.

Sen. Rand Paul said that President Obama was using the Newtown families as “pawns” as they met with legislators in Washington. Actually, the real pawns are the Republicans (and a few Democrats) who are controlled by the NRA, which itself is the pawn of gun manufacturers.

When you're in the right lane making a right turn, do you all swerve left before making the turn, causing me to swerve into the oncoming traffic to avoid sideswiping you? … Just make the turn!

It sure is aggravating to be in a line of traffic in the left lane of an interstate highway, in the process of passing slower traffic in the right lane, and the lead vehicle slows down to less than the speed limit. If you can't keep the traffic moving at a consistent, safe speed, please stay in the right lane and don't impede the progress of others.

The school vouchers are not a monetary gift. It is for educating children. I pay school taxes, and I don't even have any children in any school. Since my taxes pay for your child's education, do you pay taxes on that “gift?”

We, too, are not happy with getting so much jibber-jabber from the people who are supposed to giving us the news locally. Please just deliver the news and weather in a professional manner after you have checked the facts.

Funny, one shooting after another, and there is never anyone who sees anything. Now the police are involved in a shooting, and everyone in the area sees the incident. Amazing.

My heart goes out to the family of the shooting victim. May God give everyone peace. I will continue to pray for everyone, and know you will always be in my thoughts. I also pray that the truth will be told. Your son was a very respectful young man I had the pleasure to meet once. My heart breaks with yours, mother to mother.

Don't ever think that the closer you get to my bumper that I will go faster. I drive the speed limit, like you should.
