Fort Wayne woman says she was tied up during armed robbery

Wednesday, May 8, 2013 - 11:29 am

A woman told Fort Wayne Police that she was tied up and robbed after a man knocked on her door Tuesday evening.

The woman told police she arrived at her home in the 4700 block of Reed Street at 10:30 p.m. and soon heard a knock on her door, according to a police report. A man asked for a person by name, but the woman said that person had moved out. The man said he had walked across town and asked if he could sit on her porch to rest. She agreed and then the man knocked again on the door and asked for a phone to call for a ride. She gave him a cordless phone and a pop to drink. He returned the phone and the woman again closed and locked the door. The next time she answered to a knock, she told police, he was armed with a pipe and forced his way inside.

The victim told police the man told her to lie face down on a couch while he tried to tie her hands with an extension cord. He yelled, "Where's the money?" The woman said she had none and to take what he wanted. A second man came into the house and went to her bedroom, she told police. The second man pulled his shirt up and was wearing a bandana and sunglasses while he carried a television set out of the house.

The woman, who said her hands were never tightly bound, ran out the front door and yelled for help. A neighbor called police.

Police found the TV set in the woman's front yard and saw her Xbox console in her vehicle, which had its driver's side door open. She couldn't find her keys; police believe the men planned to drive off in her vehicle. The men escaped with her laptop, cellphone, cordless phone, jewelry and sound mixing equipment, according to the report.

Police took fingerprints from the pop can.
