The 911 emergency call center shared by Fort Wayne and Allen County is now partnering with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in order to respond more quickly to calls involving missing and exploited children.

The “911 Call Center Partner” program instructs call takers how best to handle calls that deal with abductions, lost injured or missing children, runaways, sexual exploitation and abuse and related issues. About 800,000 children go missing in the U.S. every year. Last year the local 911 center received 35 calls regarding missing children, 892 dealing with runaways, 240 child molestations and 63 reports of child sexual abuse.
