It’s hard to believe anyone would feel comfortable in doing what the abortionist Gosnell is said to have done. Imagine your dog having just given birth to a litter. Could you pick up one of the struggling puppies and stick a pair of scissors into its neck to cut its spinal cord? How much more ghastly if you did this to a little newborn babe. No horror movie could invoke deeper disgust or revulsion at the insensitivity of this monstrous act.
What Gosnell did with his scissors can also be done with letters of the law. Bills mandating that when a baby survives an abortion, medical aid should be provided were brought up in the Illinois Legislature four times when President Obama was a member there. He voted against these each time, as he did not consider the baby to be a person. In his words, it was “a temporarily alive pre-viable fetus” and “not entitled to the rights of a full-term nine month baby.”
A nurse described holding a baby for 45 minutes while its life slowly ebbed away. Other victims spent their last moments on a tray or in a basket. When a bill proposing this was brought up in the U.S. Congress, it passed unanimously, and even the most liberal pro-choice Sen. Boxer from California spoke in favor of its common-sense approach
President Obama has since made excuses for not voting for these bills, citing the failure of a “neutrality clause” that would protect Roe v. Wade. Actually, his committee had inserted that clause into the last bill he voted against.
