“We've been here seven years … and many new people who come in said they didn't know we were here until the drive,” said Barton. “(The drive) is a very good thing. Everyone loves it.”
Over the last year, Jefferson Pointe has renovated not just its practical and aesthetic landscape, but the stores themselves. White House Black Market, a retailer of upscale women's clothing, opened last August next to Von Maur.
“We think these changes add up to a more convenient and exciting shopping experience at Jefferson Pointe,” said Mike Brooks, general manager for Jefferson Pointe. Future landscaping projects include an additional 30 large flowerpots this summer. “We've made great strides over the past two years in making Jefferson Pointe the best shopping and dining experience outside of Indianapolis or Chicago.”
New stores slated for this coming summer include Soma Intimates and Marshalls at the former Old Navy location on the east end of Jefferson Pointe. Tucanos Brazilian Grill will also lease half the food court this year, offering South American and European cuisine.
Barton looks forward to “sharing space” with these new stores, and said they will bring “welcome change.”
While Barton enjoys the walk from her car, she has recognized the convenience and even necessity of the drive for less mobile patrons. Customers who previously overlooked her small shop, or did not visit at all because of the walk from the parking lots, now add to Barton's traffic. She speculated this change results from the convenience of elderly or disabled patrons parking or being dropped off directly in front of the shop.
“Some come now who couldn't do the walk before,” Barton said. “Some would also pass by the shop quickly after dark, wanting to hurry to their cars.”
Because of the success of the drive, Barton said, there is talk of adding more drives at other locations throughout Jefferson Pointe, which has not been confirmed by management.
