Host families needed

Volunteers needed

The Fort Wayne Newspapers Three Rivers Festival needs volunteers. A meeting for volunteer mixologists (bartenders) takes place 6-9 p.m. May 30 at the Allen County Public Library, 900 Library Plaza. Another volunteer sign-up takes place 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 7 at Jefferson Pointe.

Roses for veterans

On Monday, Memorial Day, Rose's Bouquets will set up a stand at the Memorial Coliseum to give out roses to veterans after the parade. Each veteran will receive one or two roses as a thank you for their service. Loved ones of service members who are no longer with us are also welcome to the flowers. Those who want to help hand out roses can contact the shop at 602-7311.

Spreading financial literacy

STAR Financial Bank employees are visiting 12 schools across Indiana to help spread financial literacy as a part of Teach Children To Save Day.

During the presentations, bankers incorporate games into lessons on the concepts of saving money, budgets, how interest makes money grow and distinguishing between needs and wants in life. STAR employee volunteer to teach students at various grade levels the basics of personal finance. Each lesson is based on the grade level of the students and tailored to incorporate fun and discussion into the lesson.

Local woman delivers gifts in Zambia

Local volunteer Beverly Lubs of Fort Wayne joined a volunteer team to deliver gift-filled shoe boxes to needy children in Zambia. The team is traveling now through Saturday. Lubs, a sign language interpreter, also serves as the Collection Center coordinator on the Operation Christmas Child volunteer logistics team for Fort Wayne.
