A Whitley County toddler drowned Tuesday in a relative's swimming pool near Columbia City, Indiana conservation officers report.
The child, whose identity was not released by law enforcement, was found at about 11:30 a.m. floating face-down in the pool by the relative who lived there. Law-enforcement officers began attempting to resuscitate the boy. As lifesaving efforts continued, the boy was taken by ambulance to Lutheran Hospital. He was pronounced dead at that hospital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
An autopsy in Fort Wayne on Wednesday preliminarily ruled drowning as the cause of death, although that cause will not be official until all findings are available, conservation officers said. Conservation officers and the Whitley County Coroner's Office continue their investigation.
