Bayer advances to 1500-meter final

Indiana University's Andy Bayer will officially be defending his NCAA title in the 1,500-meter run on Saturday. The Leo High School graduate coasted to a second-place finish in his heat Thursday at the championships being held at the University of Oregon.

Bayer finished in 3 minutes, 43 seconds after leading the first two laps and then sitting comfortably in the lead pack.

The first five finishers in each of the two heats along with the next two fastest times advance to Saturday's final scheduled for 5:31 p.m. Fort Wayne time.
