Early-morning standoff between man, FWPD ends peacefully

Wednesday, June 12, 2013 - 11:43 am

An early morning standoff between a man and members of the Fort Wayne Police Department ended peacefully, with a woman and child who were believed to be held by the man emerging unharmed.

The incident began at around 3:17 a.m., according to a news release from the police department. Officers responded to a home in the 500 block of Pinegrove Lane to investigate a reported domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, a man inside the home refused to surrender himself to police, the release said. The police department's Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team responded to the home as a result.

The standoff continued for approximately three hours, with the woman inside the home getting out safely. Members of the Emergency Services Team entered the home soon after and located a man and an infant child who was reported to be unharmed.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
